LOOK OUT:Flexi's here..
LOOK OUT:Flexi's here..
A day well spent
chatting to this hot young upcoming artist. Mbongeni Mashigo, better
known as "Flexi", a young upcoming rapper who hails from Sabie, in
Mpumalanga, who would not give away his age even after my irresistible
charm. As much as there are a lot of upcoming solo artists and groups,
only a handful stand out because their raw talent and that hunger to
make it big.
Pace: When did you start with your career? And what motivated your choice?
Flex: In 2000, I was in Grade 7, I chose to take this path because It was the only place where I could exercise my freedom of expression better than anywhere else.
Pace:What/Who inspires you to keep pushing and not stop?
Flex:It's more of a "what" question not "who", because I don't really have a specific artist that inspirers me. I get inspiration from my daily routine and one can simply refer to me as an "observer", because mostly I write about things I see or have seen while growing up.
Pace:If you would compare yourself to any other artist, Who would it be and why?
Flex:It would be difficult for me to compare myself to anyone because as an upcoming artist I would want to be different from anyone,But yeah you could say I'm just like any other focused and consistant artist out there.
Pace:What do you think your listeners will get out of your music?
Flex:Well everyone is about swagg, cars, money and women in their music with the fear of not making enough cash if they break that routine but for me, it is like "I want you to feel like I'm a friend that's been watching your ups and downs, and make you feel that i'm speaking out on your behalf when no one else can. I believe a lot can be changed through music, people can stop caging in their problems and speak out.

Pace:What is the most difficult thing you've had to endure in the music industry?
Flex:That coming across selfish, greedy and careless people who think they have the power to make or break you. Other than that I have learned to humble myself and the most difficult part for me was learning how to be patient. I buy my groceries mid-month to avoid standing in line to buy...but in this business I have learned what is means to be patient
Pace:What has been the highlight of your music career?
Flex:I've got a couple,That was getting to go to different places and meeting different kinds of people, some of which I got experience from.I must say though, My best moment was being the only local artist chosen to perform in four different venues with SABC's radio station (Ligwalagwala FM) doing a football friday, nominated to perform at National level in 2008/9 in Mpumalanga Hip Hop festival and Last but not least working with AB Crazy of CashTime Fam as my producer on my entire project "flex-ability"
Pace:AB Crazy has become one of the most talked about new comer and you got the privilege to work with him..How was that like for you?
Flex:AB and I go a long way than people know, He really is one of the people I have no problem working with for long, because knows how to cater for me in terms of production and my next project has a bit of his touch (on production).
Pace:Who else would you like to work with? locally and internationally..
Flex:Locally..first on the list would be Lira, Tshepo Tshola, Zola, Tuks, Teargas and Ray Phiri
Internationally..Jessie J, Wiz Khalifa, Fergie, Alicia Keys, Brandy and on production, Swiss Beatz and Timbaland.
Pace:How would you describe your music?
Flex:Soulful, Unique and Versatile
Pace:I'm sure the ladies are dying to know this, Are you in a relationship?
Flex:*laughs*..I have a crush on someone...
Pace:What quote do you live by?
Flex:"Tomorrow always comes after the dark", by Tupac
Pace:What's the best advice you've ever gotten?
Flex:On your way up, Never forget the people that were always there for you because they are the ones who'll still be there when you fall.
